Mapping some Ministry work in the Valley of 1000 Hills- A first collaborate GIS pilot project

Report back of progress of this pilot project:(This is one of the outflow of the Valley breakfasts) See also testimony leading to this project's start

Valley GIS Mapping Project  (First image of the GIS Mapping of ministries and Churches doing ministry in the valley of a 1000 Hills. The left yellow dot is the Rob Roy hotel and the right one is the Inanda dam's wall).

As reported at the last breakfast meeting, we had about 21 Ministries/Churches participating and captured about 81 individual projects and mapped it on the computer. (Thanks to Simon and their staff for capturing this on the computers and Kloof Harvest Ministries that allowed us to use their premises to do the manual mapping on Mike Dunleavy’s donated HUGE 2 x 3m maps) – (What a team effort that The LORD had sovereignly orchestrated here- a testimony on its own… )

On the small image below, one can clearly see the overlapping areas of ministry as well as the under serviced ones.

(All ministry areas and categories are included in this map image as the Green polygons The red dots are the ministry./Church bases.

The left Yellow dot Smileis the Rob Roy Hotel and the right yellow dot Laughingis the Inanda dam wall.)

Present progress:

Ø   At present we are busy making this maps more user friendly on the desktop GIS program. (Actually trying to get my head around this power full piece of software and to get more useable data out of this maps)

Ø   We are also using the present pilot data to try and show the individual ministries projects and classify them to help with combined planning, in the different categories e.g. home based care.

Ø   One of the challenges is to show the needs and how it is met in a qualitative and quantitative way that is easily understandable on a graphical interface….

Ø   Future planning and coordinating is one of the main points on the agenda where one want ALL the areas to be served so as to eliminate duplication in one area and no work in another.

The next phase is to get some of this data up on the internet.

Please pray for this project since it is time consuming and VERY challenging.

We will keep you posted.
